How You Can Help

Work Experience

Our Secretary Sam is keen to help students in the Chelmsford area with Citizenship Assignment Projects including valuable work experience.  An opportunity not to be missed for those looking to further their careers in the Public Sector!  We can also accommodate Millennium Volunteers and Duke of Edinburgh Volunteers

Volunteer Opportunities

If you can spare some time on a regular basis even if its a couple of hours every other week, then Sam would love to hear from you, full induction training will be provided and volunteers will always be working in part of a team.  All expenses including mileage paid (at 40p per mile). Our volunteers always receive FREE tickets/admission to our events that they help at!  Due to vulnerability of the children and adults CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) checks will be required, which we can arrange free of charge through Royal Mencap on your behalf.

Interested?  Please see our volunteer application form.

Adult Adventurers Club

We urgently require volunteers to chaperone and befriend members aged 19+ years on our various outings and days at Chelmsford College under the guidance of the Club Leader.

CMYC

We require people to help at this club on a weekly (Tuesday's) basis between the hours of 6.15pm-8.45/9pm.  Volunteers must be a minimum of 13 years old, there is no upper age limit.  Duties to involve assisting the Club Leader in the weekly running of the club, ensuring the young adults at the club receive a very high standard of care and work as part of a team under the Chelmsford Mencap umbrella.

Gateway Kidz Club

We require people to help at this club on a weekly (Tuesday's) term time basis between the hours of 5pm-7pm.  Volunteers must be a minimum of 13 years old, there is no upper age limit.  Duties to involve assisting the Club Manager and Play Leader in the weekly running of the club, ensuring children within the club receive a very high standard of care and work as part of a team under the Chelmsford Mencap umbrella.

Gateway Club

The Gateway Club is for people aged over 16 years.  They enjoy many activities such as bingo, discos, darts, magic shows, line dancing, drawing or just chatting with friends.  Around 40 members attend this club each week.  If you can spare a couple of hours every other week between 7pm-9pm then we'd love to hear form you.

Daybreak Scheme

Volunteers are needed to befriend a child or young person and help them have a great time.  Experience of working with children with disabilities is not essential. However, volunteers will need patience, enthusiasm and a sunny disposition as well as the willingness to work as part of a team. Ideal opportunity for students during the long holiday breaks.  Duties to involve assisting the Coordinator and Play Leader in the running of the scheme, ensuring children receive a very high standard of care and work as part of a team under the Chelmsford Mencap umbrella.

Chelmsford Mencap

Chelmsford Mencap regularly organise outings and events throughout the year all of which require volunteer assistance in the form of chaperoning learning disability members and assisting the Secretary in ensuring the days events run smoothly.  Other general flexible volunteering assistance is available such as administration duties, promotional work and street collections
